The monotheistic insertions in sanAtana philosophy. Thanks to abrahamic translations.

pataNjali, bAdarAyaNa vyAsa, shaNkara..none have talked about 'एकवाद' monoism/monism but about अद्वैत non-dualism.

Quadrilateral includes squares & rectangles but quadrilateral doesn't necessarily translate into rectangle or square only.
Monism/monoism is purposely translation by westerners of advaita to suit monotheistic dogma.

Also, most of the translations of vedAnta texts into European languages was not done through samskrita but earlier Arabic translations which in turn were translations of Farsi translations done during Mogol era. It wasn't until William Jones's works at the crux of 18-19th C when the Europeans got to see/read/hear samskrita for the first time at a proper platform.

Anyways Monoism/Monism suited the abrahamic-colonists so they never bothered about the actual approximate translation non-dualism. At the crux of 19-20th C when Indian philosophers wrote in English the term non-dualism gradually gained currency.
